Beirut Junction - Diagrammatic Metamorphosis

The approach of this project revolved around working on the different nodes and connections that are present along the Mar Mkhael site in Beirut.
We have decided to work on four major areas:
the Port , the Charles Helou Bridge , the Pedestrian Bridge and finally the Mar Mkhayel Stairs.

Our first approach was in relation to these four spaces, trying to dissect them and abstract their movements into planes and surfaces.
The second step consisted of creating physical models based on the four diagrams, to represent, in an abstract matter, the spaces dealt with and the different movements present in them .
From there, we started visualizing the spaces in a way that ts best, through a series of physical models, all the way to create a master plan that was the closest to our architectural vision on the specific site.

The function of the project resulted as an NGO Headquarters, along with mixed used spaces, from auditoriums and exhibition spaces, to offices and shops.

The close relation to the highway was dealt with in the project , along with the need to create open public spaces, gathering spaces, knowing that beirut really lacks such areas.
